In 2005, Pitch In For Baseball (PIFB) was created with the purpose of collecting new and gently used equipment to redistribute to children around the globe enabling them to play ball. Over the past 12+ years, PIFB has expanded programming and partners to help more than 800,000 boys and girls get on the field in every state in the U.S. and more than 100 countries internationally.
Historically, our projects have been a split of 75% baseball/25% softball. In recent years, Pitch In For Baseball has experienced a spike in the amount of softball requests and communities wanting to create more opportunities for girls. However, donations of gently used softball equipment has remained relatively flat and has not grown enough to meet the demand. PIFB has fulfilled these equipment grant requests with baseball gloves and the limited supply of bats and softballs. But we can and want to do more.
As PIFB explored prospective partnerships to secure resources to support the increased interest in softball, we were met with some concern/confusion over the implied exclusivity of the “Pitch In For Baseball” brand. As such, the PIFB Board has recognized the need to launch a parallel brand focused exclusively on softball.
In January 2018, Pitch In For Softball was officially launched at the Mohegan Sun World Softball Coaches Convention highlighted by a sponsored autograph session with PIFS Advisory Board member, Natasha Watley.
